When Can We Travel Again?

Are you wondering if you can travel now?  Or when it is ok to travel?  Let's examine how the current situation (Covid-19) is impacting travel.

There are a number of things to consider if you want to travel right now.

  • Government advisory against travel (you need to consider not just your home country, but also where you are traveling to.
  • Will you require a negative Covid test prior to arriving at your destination?
  • You will require a negative Covid test 72 hours prior to arriving back in Canada.  Then you must quarantine for 14 days.
  • How easy will it be to get a Covid test in the destination?  What are the costs?
  • You need a backup plan if you 1) aren't able to procure a Covid test or 2) your test is positive and you need to remain in the destination.
  • If you are to remain in destination until you test negative you will do so at your own cost.

YOU MUST BE PREPARED FOR FLIGHT CANCELLATIONS AND KNOW THAT YOU MAY HAVE TO STAY IN DESTINATION FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME.  CANADA WILL NOT REPATRIATE YOU.

These are some of the things that immediately come to my mind when I think about travel right now or the very near future.

If you decide to travel be prepared that many restrictions may be in place.  Restaurant closures, curfews, obligatory mask-wearing, etc.

On the other hand, you may just be the only person at the destination.  What a fabulous way to see a famous sight!  Can you imagine, you and the Mona Lisa all alone?
